A Little Randomness:
  • Today is Chocolate Milkshake Day!  Rich, creamy, and indulgent, the milkshake is perhaps the perfect desert food. Cold enough to take the chill off a hot summer’s day, smooth enough to be enjoyed through a straw, and thick enough to provide a satisfying weight on the tongue. Make it with chocolate? Pure perfection. Chocolate Milkshake Day celebrates this indulgent dessert and it’s history, especially as it comes in combination with that richest and most desired of substances.  Check out the attached recipe!

Today's Bit of Inspiration:
  • Your problems matter. The obstacles you face along the way are building your strength. The bumps you inadvertently take are making you a better driver, and all those tears you cried are washing you clean. Your tears matter and even your darkness matters."

Have a terrific Thursday at Monroe!!!

A Little Randomness:
  • Today is Patriots Day!  Today is remembered globally as the anniversary of the catastrophic terrorist attacks on the USA of 11th September 2001.  Embedded in the memories of everyone who lived through it, this was the day four jet planes were hijacked and crashed into the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, causing the deaths of 2,977 people. The fourth plane (United Airlines Flight 93) was directed at Washington DC, but its passengers bravely attempted to take back control and it crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  The large majority of those lost after the attacks on the Twin Towers were working at or above the points of collision; thousands of people who had gone to work that morning like every other day, found themselves suddenly stranded at the top of a burning skyscraper.  A number made the choice to jump from the flaming buildings rather than wait to be caught by the flames or for the building to collapse No one could forget the terrifying and heartbreaking stories and images captured by the news footage of the day.

In the wake of the World Trade Center collisions, many brave men and women from the emergency services risked their lives to try to help rescue victims of the attacks, and of them 411 lost their own lives attempting to fight fires and rescue people.

Today's Bit of Inspiration:
  • The measure of a life is not what that life accomplishes, but rather the impact that life has on others." - Jackie Robinson

A Little Randomness:
  • Today is World Suicide Prevention Day! Did you know that most young people who are suicidal communicate their thoughts with their peers instead of talking to an adult?  With that said, only 25% of the peers that have heard these suicidal comments tell an adult.   If you have heard another person say that they want/plan to kill or hurt themselves, this needs to be reported to an adult in the building.  We are trained in how to address this (or know who to talk to who is) and can put things in place to keep the individual safe or to improve what might have felt like a helpless situation.  Comments like this must be taken seriously (even if it is unsure if they meant it or seemed to be 'doing it for attention'), as it very well could be a matter of life or death for someone.

Today's Bit of Inspiration:
  • Your existence matters. It’s not accidental, you’re here because you have a story to tell and you’re here because you will have an impact."

A Little Randomness:
  • Today is Read a Book Day!  The first celebration of Read a Book Day was around the end of the first decade of the 2000’s and was almost certainly the idea of a librarian, probably one who was encouraging youngsters to read a book.  On Read a Book Day, it’s not compulsory to read a whole book but the day serves as inspiration to people to read a section of a book they particularly enjoyed, to read with children, to donate a book to a children’s school library, or to host a book reading party.

  • Today is Wildlife Day!  Every year we lose numerous species to the growth and expansion of human holdings, but through the effort of zoos, sanctuaries, and preservation organizations that rate is being slowed. These groups do amazing work, educating and bringing awareness to people everywhere, all while preserving these precious treasures from Mother Nature. Wildlife Day reminds us that there are creatures out there that cannot speak for themselves, so we have to stand up and be a voice for them. The animals will thank you for it, as will the generations to come who will still be able to enjoy them!
