WHO AM I?
Hi! My name is Mike MacConnell, and I'm one of the English Language Arts teachers on 6B this year. I've lived in Omaha for the past five years. Prior to that, I taught elementary ESL in Lincoln. This is my second-year teaching 6th grade, and my fourth year at Monroe. Unlike many of the other staff bios you'll read, I have no children or pets, so my life outside of school is pretty quiet. I live in the Old Market, and I enjoy going to the restaurants and shops downtown (when they're open).
As we embark on this journey together, my goal is to empower each student to harness the potential that is already inside of them. I hope to challenge your child and help him or her grow in new and exciting ways. We will learn to read, write, spell, and comprehend. Just as importantly, however, we will learn what it means to be respectful, caring, and compassionate to each other.
While the weeks and months ahead are almost certain to present challenges, I believe those things provide us all with opportunities to learn, grow, and support each other. With that being said, I look forward to the opportunity to learn and grow together with your student this year, whatever that looks like.
