100% Effort Club
Criteria for membership is to have no absences, no referrals, and no failing grades during a given quarter.

Academic Excellence
Students qualify by earning a minimum of 3.50 grade point average for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd quarter.

Academic Excellence in American History
Presented to 8th grade students who, over the course of the entire school year, demonstrated superior classroom performance on daily and/or homework assignments, projects, and examinations.

Academic Excellence in Language Arts
Presented to students who, over the course of the entire school year, demonstrated superior classroom performance on daily and/or homework assignments, projects and examinations.

Academic Excellence in Science
Presented to students who, over the course of the entire school year, demonstrated superior classroom performance on daily and/or homework assignments, projects and examinations.

Academic Excellence in Social Studies
Presented to 7th grade students who, over the course of the entire school year, demonstrated superior classroom performance on daily and/or homework assignments, projects, and examinations.

Academic Excellence in Spanish
Presented to students who, over the course of the entire school ear, demonstrated superior performance on homework, projects, oral participation, and chapter tests and have demonstrated excellent citizenship.

Honor Roll of Merit
Students qualify by earning a 3.0-3.49 grade point average 1st, 2nd, or 3rd quarter.

Leadership Team
Students are nominated by their 7th grade teachers and with direction from the OPS Gifted Education Department participate in service activities throughout the school year.

Mustang Merits
Mustang Merits are given to students throughout the school year for displaying exemplary behaviors. The idea is to "catch" students exhibiting such behavior as being helpful toward others or showing good sportsmanship. Monthly, students redeem their Mustang Merits for coupons of various privileges/prizes. These privileges range from cutting to the front of the lunch line to skipping a homework assignment.

National Junior Honor Society
Membership awarded to eighth grade students who meet the following criteria: Scholarship (3.5 grade point average for all of seventh and eighth grade), Leadership, Citizenship, School and Community Involvement.

Perfect Attendance
Awarded quarterly to students who have no absences or tardies.

Presidential Academic Award (8th Grade)
Established in 1983 by President Reagan honoring graduating students who have an overall 3.5 grade point average.

Renaissance
The purpose of Renaissance is to recognize students who are achieving and excelling and to motivate all students to strive for excellence. Follow this link for a detailed description of the Renaissance Program and pictures of various activities.

Rotary Honor Roll
Eighth grade students are selected by faculty vote.
Criteria for selection: Leadership, Character, Scholarship, and Appearance

Talent Identification Program (7th Grade)A non-profit educational organization sponsored by Duke University for 7th grade students. One objective of the program is to identify the very bright among our youngsters at an early age. These students are invited to take the actual SAT or ACT during their 7th grade year.
